for a Senior Program Manager, K-12 Outreach.The Senior Program
Manager for K-12 Outreach (Program Operations Specialist) is part
of the Diversity & Access team within undergraduate student
services at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science &
Engineering at the University of Washington.The Diversity & Access
team reflects a commitment to supporting students from groups who
are underrepresented in computing. We use the National Science
Foundation definition of underrepresented in the computing field
including students who are women, African American, Hispanic,
American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Native Pacific Islander, and
students with disabilities.The Senior Program Manager will also be
actively involved in all of Diversity & Access team led K-12
outreach activities; often in development, facilitator, and
supervisory roles. This includes supervising one professional staff
member in charge of large K-12 outreach events & summer programs
and supervising the Allen School student ambassador team.Under the
supervision of the Assistant Director for Diversity & Access, this
position is charged with overseeing our Allen School Diversity &
Access Team K-12 Outreach Programs. This involves developing and
implementing a strategy and assessment plan for our K-12 outreach
activities and programs in alignment with Allen School DEI&A
goals. The person in this position will also be actively involved
in all of Diversity & Access team led K-12 outreach activities;
often in development, facilitator, and supervisory roles.DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administration and Strategic Planning of Allen School K-12
Outreach Efforts
- With the Assistant Director for Diversity & Access, develop a
K-12 outreach strategy that aligns with the Hopper-Dean grant
foundation priorities, the Allen School Broadening Participation
Plan, and DEI&A Strategic Plan.
- With campus partners, create and implement an assessment plan
for outreach efforts including an evaluation and improvement
process that evaluates cultural relevance and accessibility for the
communities we serve.
- Update and maintain Allen School outreach webpages and
documentation.
- Serve as the main point of contact and thought partner for
Allen School faculty, staff, and student groups who are leading
K-12 outreach efforts and provide direction and guidance.
- Help Allen School community members plug-in to existing
outreach efforts.
- Lead a weekly K-12 outreach committee meeting with the
Assistant Director for Diversity & Access, K-12 outreach
coordinator, and others.
- Directing the Allen School ambassador program
- Hire, train, and supervise a team of 10-15 student employees
annually, including two - four lead ambassadors, for the entire
calendar year including summer.
- Lead weekly leads meetings to coordinate Ambassador projects
and events with involved partner(s).
- Establish and track ambassador objectives, measurable goals,
and tactics.
- Oversee and lead the design of the Allen School ambassador K-12
and community college outreach activities.
- Train ambassadors on how to effectively counsel, teach, and
interact with high school students; supervise student
interactions.
- Oversee all ambassador K-12 outreach activities, events, and
interactions with students.
- Coordinating with the Recruiter for Diversity & Access to
schedule ambassadors for recruitment-related events including
information sessions, admitted student preview day, etc.
- Register ambassador-led programs in the UW Youth Programs
system and ensure compliance with UW Youth Safety
Requirements.
- Supervision of K-12 Outreach Large Events & Summer Programs
Coordinator
- Hire, train, and supervise one professional staff member in
charge of large K-12 outreach events and Summer Programs.
- Provide direction and guidance on all K-12 outreach large
events and summer programs.
- Serve as the main point of contact for outside partners who are
engaging with our large programs.
- Help review and maintain Undergraduate Students Services Team
and Diversity & Access team values, expectations, and
policies.
- Establish relationship with high schools, community-based
organizations, and UW partners
- Establish and build sustainable relationships with high schools
and organizations in the surrounding communities in the Puget Sound
region.
- Coordinate Allen School outreach efforts with partner
schools/organizations including ambassador presentations, graduate
student efforts, etc.
- Identify shared programmatic priorities with each partner
school/organization and consistently measure progress of
relationships.
- Keep updated records and document interactions with all partner
high schools/organizations.
- Other
- Responsible for purchasing and keeping track of K-12 outreach
expenses using a university purchasing card.
- Professional development: attend NCORE (or another related
DEIA) conference annually.
- Other duties and/or special projects assigned by the Assistant
Director for Diversity & Access.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, STEM, or related
field.
- At least 4 years of related experience.Equivalent
education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications
except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have cultural competency and experience working with
low-income, first-generation, and BIPOC students.
- Experience working with high school students (e.g. counseling,
teaching, outreach activities, tutoring, etc.).
- Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to
multi-task, prioritize work, and manage heavy workloads with
frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrated experience organizing and collaborating with
multiple stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pick-up and learn administrative tools and systems
used by our department including Microsoft Office, Google's suite,
Slack, etc.
- Ability to travel throughout the greater Seattle area to visit
high schools, and attend area events.
- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing
to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of student development/student
leadership through working with student leaders and/or student
employees.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Education, Counseling, STEM, or a related
field.
- Experience designing and leading STEM activities.
- Interest in improving student access to computing in K-12 and
beyond.
- Experience leading initiatives, promoting diversity at a large
public institution and/or equivalent organization.Application
