The System Design Engineer (Gas) will be responsible for designing
and analyzing fluid systems in support of advanced nuclear reactor
development. The engineer will collaborate closely with
multidisciplinary teams to drive system integration, performance,
and reliability. Reporting to the System Design Manager, this role
encompasses system design, engineering documentation, oversight,
and systems engineering functions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of gas and fluid systems from
conceptual requirements through final design and commissioning.
Conduct technical trade studies and make informed decisions to
refine system architecture.
Oversee supplier activities related to the development and
fabrication of gas processing, filtration, and monitoring
equipment.
Evaluate component designs within the context of complete system
integration.
Prepare and review technical specifications, operational
narratives, and system documentation.
Identify and resolve plant- and system-level integration
challenges.
Support and participate in design reviews and ensure alignment with
project requirements.
Develop and manage detailed design packages, including
calculations, design reports, drawings, and specifications.
Interface with cross-functional teams to support P&IDs, 3D
models, and interface drawings.
Coordinate with mechanical, I&C, civil, and nuclear engineering
disciplines to define and meet system performance criteria.
Propose, initiate, and support system development testing and
qualification programs.
Provide oversight and analysis during testing and compile
comprehensive test reports.
Qualifications & Experience
B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or related field
from an accredited university.
5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical or gas system
design.
Strong experience with piping systems and P&ID development.
Demonstrated experience working with suppliers of safety-related
equipment.
In-depth understanding of applicable design codes (ASME BPVC, API,
etc.).
Familiarity with safety classifications for systems, structures,
and components (SSCs).
Knowledge of piping analysis and nuclear quality assurance
standards (e.g., ASME NQA-1, AS9100, ISO 9001).
Ability to manage and prioritize competing design constraints and
objectives.
Proven ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.
